Rustic Shed

An old shed using Topaz Series for editing. I might use this one as a painting down the road.

Nash Vehicle

We went shopping one Saturday morning and when we came out of the Mark's Work Warehouse, I spotted this car. Luckily I had my camera with me and snapped a few shots. As we were driving along Cliff, along came this Nash Vehicle driving past us. It is certainly an odd shaped car.

Tire Rim

I captured this last year when we went to the Shield's Junk Yard in Courtenay. I hope to get back there soon to take more photos, so much to see and many possibilities in creativity.

The Glaciers in Late March

I was in the car riding along Comox Road and had my camera ready for a shot of the mountains. Turned out pretty good considering we moving along quickly. We still have a lot of snow up on the mountains, looks so pretty.

Driving on the Old Island Highway from Fanny Bay

I filmed this video with my iPod to see how it would turn out. The quality is quite good. The video is 2 minutes and 37 seconds long. You don't have to watch the whole thing, shows the view from the old Island Highway, the water view. Thanks to Margy of Powell River Books blog giving me instructions on how to post this. I was at the ImageFest at Sid Williams Theatre on Saturday night with the camera club. One slide show in particular, thought it was very well done by a photographer using his iPhone. I see that they have come out with special lenses for the iPhone and worth looking into. Such a small device to slip in ones pocket while traveling.

A Recent Sale

Last September one of my paintings sold, and yesterday I sold another one of my paintings. The one with the red doors sold yesterday. Both paintings now reside in Vancouver in two separate homes. I know they went to good homes too. Still it is never easy to let go especially when these two are my favorites.

Country Mailbox

There are still these types of mailboxes that exist in some parts of Comox. Though this one looks like it has seen better days.

A New Garden Bloom

For the life of me, the name of this flower escapes me. I thought perhaps it may be a Hyacinth but I could be wrong. Anyone know?

March 21, 2012

Blue Heron

Can you find him in the Bulrushes? At the Lazo Conservation Park, Comox. I was not sure if I was going to capture him once he landed among the bulrushes. It appears he was cleaning himself.

Sea Lion

This was taken in Fanny Bay, on Vancouver Island, BC. There was many of them sunbathing on a rafter barking up a storm. Especially this one, seems to want to be in control. This was my first view of them being free. I dislike seeing these guys in a confined space.

Skunk Cabbage

On our walk, we discovered our first of many Skunk Cabbages plant growing in the forest. It was too mucky and wet to get a proper view. Perhaps another day with my rubber boots.

MacDonald Woods Trail

There was debris all over the trail paths, it actually looks pretty, adding some greenery on the ground. The scents from the fir trees smelled good too.

Log Jam

The Boardwalk by MacDonald Woods is usually accessible with a clear path down the stairs. After the storm, all these logs moved either forward or backwards and accumulated in front of the stairs. If one is agile and has great balance, to walk on these logs to get to the other side. I, on the other hand, have bad balance and not as agile as I used to be. When the tide is out, I can walk around it. Hope the Parks people can come by and clear it somehow. It was certainly a calm afternoon after the storm.

Fallen Trees

We had hurricane type wind storm early Monday morning. I was out on my walk to the park and saw this one the way. The house narrowly missed the crash of the huge branches and tree that fell in front of it. Whoever lived down this driveway, could not enter or leave with the car. In the forest, lots of trees fallen, across the trail, down the beach, was log jams blocking the stairs to the beach path which I will show in tomorrow's post.

New Growth

Spring is an exciting time when we see new growth peeking through the leaves left from last Fall. While walking home today, I wished I had the camera with me as I saw some blossoms, trees budding already. Officially Spring does not start till March 20th.

A Grey Fence

Another unique fence I captured last month in Cumberland.

Reflective Trees

It was a cold Sunday afternoon on our walk last week, I took several shots of the reflections in this pond. This was the best, gave it some definition and added a frame.

March 11, 2012

Paint Brushes

I wanted to create an abstract arty look to this photo. Straight out of the camera, the photo looked washed out so I added a few touches with the Topaz series in Photoshop.

More Crocuses

We have many crocuses growing in the garden. I just love the coloring these ones.

March 9, 2012

Window Frame

Early last month while dining at the Gate House Bistro in Cumberland, I had to take some photos of the window frame by the table. It looked quite old and multiple colors. It had character and beauty.

March 8, 2012

Chickadees

We went for a walk in the Lazo Wildlife Park on Sunday afternoon, I used my 100 mm macro lens to take this shot. I did not noticed till I got home to load the photos onto the computer the second chickadee about to take flight. I was focusing on the one sitting on the branch.

My husband posing for the photo in Filberg Park area, he was looking at the deer grazing on the grass in the distance.

Monkey Tree

A young Monkey Tree in Lewis Park. Anyone remember the game one plays while riding in the car, "Monkey Tree, I can pinch you but you can't pinch me back", game. I only learned this when I met my husband, and we were chatting about childhood games one plays while traveling.

What's in That Window?

It appears to be a folded up cardboard in the window. I was wondering why it is there, though it certainly makes one take a closer look when walking by with a camera.

Estuary on Comox Road

This was taken from the Rotary Viewing Deck on Comox Road, looking out to the Estuary. This photo was taken the same day as my clouds shot in yesterdays blog.

Winter Clouds

Yesterday, we went to Lewis Park in Courtenay, it was a very cold windy day with brilliant sunshine. I angled the camera just so that the tops of the trees showed with the fluffy clouds behind them.

Fifth Street Bridge, Courtenay

This bridge needs a facelift and a new paint job. I gave it some color while editing. Hope they keep it green in color.
